It’s a very beautiful and inspiring piece. We are shackled by ourselves yet we are rarely aware! Updating our internal models of the self and the world is the key.
I have definitely internalized that Mid-western ethos 🤔 I also have “always” thought I needed to do things myself if I wanted them done right. This was a very useful essay. Thanks for sharing your insights.
Very very very profound article and resonated with me a lot Danny. Definitely needed to hear this and definitely think this a midwestern thing. I was always taught to do it yourself, grind hard, and don’t take any handouts. This was definitely not only limiting my connections, but my experiences as well. I am glad I got out of that mindset and started to connect with different people. It is so amazing to not only be the person with resources or connections to provide, but to also be the beneficiary of others resources as well. Great article!
Danny, bravo. Well done. That was a very thoughtful presentation of limiting beliefs. I don’t think that dopamine typically gets enough attention in papers like this. I was very impressed with the tie in of the confirmation cognitive bias. I don’t recall seeing it before in this context. I agree with you 100% about its role as a reinforcement mechanism for all beliefs, good and bad.
On a personal note, you and your family have my deepest condolences. You are all in my prayers - that and 5 bucks will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.
